dint expect DD to do like this!!!!

Posted by redthil On 12/26/2010 09:19:00 PM

It was all about the broadcast of the launching of the satellite launch vehicle GSLV F06 on Doordharshan . Everything went fine.. both the broadcasting schedule and the launching schedule. in T-12mins, ALS got initiated successfully, and ISRO chairman R Radhakrishnan, explained the details of this rocket and the satellite, GSAT - 5P, which this rocket should have placed in its orbit. And the countdown, then the successful ignition.

All is well till this point. it was showing the proposed trajectory and the live video of the rocket.. in exactly 47 secs (dint knew the exact secs that time, later got it..), everything went wrong for the launching plan. In first stage itself something went wrong, and just saw the rocket disintegrating and falling down.. that was the last live video on that broadcast. from that second, nothing related to this failure was shown or even updated. not even in the DD News.

Didnt expect DD to cut the broadcast, so suddenly. not even any updates on that. too bad. Atleast some ticker showing the update about this 125crore loss would have been good. Hopefully, next time atleast, the GSLV launch goes seamlessly, and even if its not, atleast DD considers the viewers and updates about it.

its not my kitchen !

Posted by redthil On 12/25/2010 07:58:00 PM

have been off from my kitchen for a long while, since mom was thr... why not goin to kitchen when mom is thr?? well, when the expert is there, u always have that little fear in doing things, even when u know that you wont do wrong... so, after a loong time, entered kitchen.. and suddenly felt i'm not in my kitchen.. why???

well... first things first, its clean!!!!!!!!!!!!! and things are in place, on where it has to be.. which is pretty strange for me... and you can clearly differentiate the kitchen which is solely handled by a bachelor guy/man, with the one handled or even visited by girl/woman. its wat it is... :)

and i can see all those sweet boxes, the ice-cream boxes, and any type of box which i got it to home when my mom was here, as some or the other grocery jar, stacked on the shelf, which otherwise, i would have thrown it into the trash immediately.. ;)

also, i dont find the "non" in the "non-stick" tava which i was using it for making dosa.. and thats the most important vessel in my kitchen.. and thats the most used vessel too.. since had lil experience in making dosa at my hometown, where there is no concept of non-stick at all in home, i could cope with this change immediately.

most importantly, have called mom several times today, to ask which is where.. actually, it was like doing some discovery in a unknown jungle or exploring the map in AOE.. ;) still there are areas to unveil tho.. hopefully, will complete my exploration by the end of tomorrow atleast.. ;)

Upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S to Froyo 2.2 successfully !

Posted by redthil On 12/01/2010 01:06:00 AM

Step-By-Step Process of upgrading your Samsung Galaxy S Mobile to Froyo 2.2 in India:

Launch Kies Software from your PC and connect your Samsung Galaxy S Mobile in "Samsung Kies" USB Connect  Mode.
To make it as default : Settings > Wireless and Network > USB Settings > Samsung Kies - Enable

Click on "Firmware Upgrade" icon (second icon from right in the icon bar). Mostly, automatically, your Firmware Upgrade Available Window pops-up as soon as you connect your Mobile in Kies.

Though your contacts, installed apps, pics, videos, files, messages, all other stuffs remains untouched by this upgrade process, it is better to take backup of those to you PC, as a just-in-case precaution.

need to ensure that internet connection is available before you agree and proceed next

its better to save your data in server, also for a just-in-case scenario

Download of the binary files start. Ensure that your mobile phone is never dis-connected during the whole process. If its a slow connection, it take quite a while to download. for my 256Kbps, it took almost 30mins..

Once downloaded, upgrade process starts automatically. You can see the Android Work-in-Progress logo on your Mobile Screen now and the blue progress bar of downloading the new OS to your mobile.

Once the upgrade is complete, your Samsung Galaxy S Mobile reboots. you can see the reboot code lines in green during the first boot. Also, it takes a little while, almost 2 mins in my case, for the first boot.

You can verify that your OS now is Froyo 2.2 by  navigating to
  "Settings > About Phone"
 Model Number : GT-I9000
 Firmware Version : 2.2
 Baseband version: I9000DDJP2
 Kernel version:
 and most importantly..
 Build Number:  FROYO.DDJP6

One good thing is, as this update brings Flash Support, i'm now able to watch the Youtube videos embedded in my blog... :)
Am yet to test on the GPS fix part... will check that during the day time and comment on that too.

Overall, its good to be more nearer to the latest Android OS available. :)

BIAS Vayu Vajra Route Map - Clear Image

Posted by redthil On 11/13/2010 08:38:00 PM

Was checking for the route map of BIAS Vayu Vajra Airport Service bus.. though i could find the map at the BMTC website ( http://www.bmtcinfo.com/site/BSBusServicesGoogleMap.jsp?bsserviceid=1), but couldn't find that map clear to find the location. So, after a some search in the big sea of www, it was little hard to get a clear image of the route-map. so, here is a clear image..

click on the image to view it big...

My all new Samsung Galaxy S

Posted by redthil On 11/05/2010 05:42:00 PM

It has been two weeks since i got this new Smart Phone "Samsung Galaxy S" from Samsung Dealer, KR Office Equipment-Domlur.. before getting it, reading/analyzing about this mobile, i was not confident on going for the Samsung brand for Mobile. for this mobile, Samsung really did a wonderful job.

My initial comments about this mobile, is, Awesome..may be since i'm using Full-Touch mobile phone for the first time.. but i'm all excited on using this. Still exploring on the complete feature list, but some of the key features that stand-out from the rest of its competitors are

> Awesome display - 4inch Super AMOLED Screen, Gorilla Glass, TouchWiz3.0 UI,Multi-touch
> Very Slim and light weight - 122.4mm x 64.2mm, 9.9mm thick, 119g
> Google Operating System - Android 2.1 (Eclair), soon will be upgraded to 2.2 (Froyo),
> Good Memory - 16GB internal storage,  512MB RAM, 2GB ROM
> Smooth Multi-tasking - 1GHz Processor for games, social networking, camera, etc etc at the same time
> How can i miss talking about camera!!! just 5MP main camera, but has touch focus, smile detection, panaromic shot option, HD video recording 720p@30fps.. and secondary VGA for video call

Also one more feature i like in this is the SWYPE text input method. So, no touching of individual alphabet.. just slide your finger over the letters in the order, and it gets the word from that.. this makes sending sms a little more fun..
and also the amazing viewing angle of the screen..

Isn't it nice when someone makes u feel spl - cute one...

Making me smile... And no one else could!
that's why... i like to sit... next.. to you,
And hear your mad stories, i know they're not true..
And i like that we share... a secret or two... together....!
Little things you do... for me..

History of Whatever

Posted by redthil On 9/25/2010 02:49:00 PM

TV Show - Part of MERA INDIA @ Fox History Channel
"Anchored by Javed Jaffrey, this is an exclusive studio based documentary show tracing the existence of simple pleasures of life that make our one billion plus nation tick. It brings to life the various aspects of human life, the products we consume, the brands that make us, things of everyday use that give us our identity. The show helps you catch up with time… moments that you will remember for a lifetime." - Fox History Channel
Being a small fan of this "History Channel", didnt see any ads or promos about this show, till i watched the preview episodes of "History of Whatever: Chai" and "History of Whatever : AIR" (ie All India Radio) sometime last week. its a "Documentary" show, but a different kind as such... especially, the way the show took about "Chai" (nothing but "Tea" ), and how it influences all kind of people, rich -to- poor, streets -to- 5star hotels, quarter Tea -to- export quality Tea, etc etc. similarly, about AIR too. And during the show, they give some really interesting facts/info about the topic.

Apart from the contents of the show, i like the Title song very much, its lyrics, and background music too.. Awesome music.. here it is...

To tell you more about this show, let me quote few words from an article on a magazine, here...
If you thought history and humour had zilch to do with each other, here's some trivia for you. Apparently, the two aren't polar opposites, at least not when Bollywood's favourite funny man Jaaved Jaffrey is bridging the gap.
Fox History & Entertainment is all geared up to launch a new series titled “History of Whatever”. Anchored by Jaaved Jaaferi, this is a studio based documentary show tracing the existence of simple pleasures of life that makes our nation tick. In a telephonic interview, Jaaved informs: “The show is a five-part series which will be co-hosted by Santosh Desai. This is a one-of-a-kind documentary show that will leaf through pages from our lives and read them out to us like stories we have never heard before.”
What made him want to host the show? “The channel's viewership is high and the topics dealt with on the show are intriguing. Although this works within the framework of a documentary, it is quite pacey and engaging. And it's got that tinge of wry English humour and intelligence in equally sumptuous amounts.”
While he does acknowledge that he's the one that ups the humour quotient on the show, he doesn't think people would watch it for him. “A show like this speaks for itself."

Rafael Nadal and his collection of Grand Slam titles

Posted by redthil On 9/14/2010 11:17:00 AM

Nadal Wins US Open 2010

Nadal had already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon singles titles and by adding the US Open he joined Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer as the only men to win the four majors.

At 24, he is the third youngest to achieve the feat and his best may be still to come.

Nadal became the first man since Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year and he now has the chance to hold all four concurrently if he can add the Australian Open in January.

Here are the collection pics of those Grand Slam Titles ......

With nine Grand Slam titles in total -- five French Opens, two Wimbledon, one Australian Open and now one US Open, he climbed to seventh place on the all-time list and Federer's record of 16 could be within his reach if he stays healthy.

Dlink router setup crashes!!!

Posted by redthil On 8/25/2010 11:41:00 PM

Just got a new D-Link  DIR 615 Wireless N Router today, after a week of my old Netgear router stopped working (have to do a postmortem of that router soon). After the issue faced during the setup of my old netgear router, this time, wanted to ensure that, the setup of this router, is smooth and without issues.
The cover of the router box itself said, "EASY INSTALL - 3 simple steps". That gave me lot of relief, as i dont have to go through the rather little difficult task of configuring it manually. Inserted the CD, and launched the "Router Setup Wizard". After clicking on "Agree" button (as always, didnt read any line in that agreement text, but always ensure that, i drag the scroll bar down, till the end), the first page was to select the language. Selected English, and clicked Next. All is well till now.

The second screen was "Checking the current network" and "Verifying the Current Network". started the first one of checking the current network. just then popped up an windows error window, saying that "The program has encountered an ERROR"... just thought it might be because of, the setup not be compliant with Windows Vista. Read the manual, which was saying it compatible from Windows2000 till  Windows7...

Closed the wizard, took the CD out, inserted it, and tried again (got used to the Windows method of restarting to solve any error encountered). But no use with this one.
Also tried disabling the Windows Firewall, Defender, and other Anti-Malware services. but no hope of going through this setup wizard.

Though i can manual setup, instead of using setup wizard, i wanted to find out the reason behind this setup wizard crash. After little reading here n there, and trying to understand what its doing when its checking for current network setup, finally was able to find the root cause for the crash. Found that, those network connections, which were created for the Virtualization Software(s), was the culprit behind this crash. This setup wizard was not able to get proper info or its getting some info which its not able to understand, and ultimately ends up crashing.

Disabled all the other Network Connections, except the main one, in which i have connected it to the internet. This time, the whole setup went through fine, and configured my wireless connection also using the setup wizard. Relax at the end!!!!

This is how the network connections status looked, after all the configurations.... you can see the status of Virtualized Networks as "Disabled"

Dont know when will i configure a router without any issue!!!!!

World of Winged Jewels - Butterfly Park !!!

Posted by redthil On 8/15/2010 12:54:00 AM

Yet another gr8 day in my life, just got over... but this day, in addition to the world wide web, spent valuable time at the world of winged jewels... Butterfly Park @ Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore. Though November is the peak season for the butterfly, we could find few varieties of them.

And those are more than enough, to take you from this world to the wonderland. Infact, Butterfly is seen as the personification of a person's soul. (One Japanese superstition says that if a butterfly enters your guestroom and perches behind the bamboo screen, the person whom you most love is coming to see you.

And it really takes your breath away, when it just passes very near to your eyes, flapping its wings, very very beautiful ones. its really difficult to refrain from trying to touch those, that too, when it calmly sits in an leaf/flower. so, instead of touching it, this time tried to capture few of those, not with my hands, with my camera. so, here are few of those...

It was very very very calm morning, with just the buzzing sound of bees hitting ur ear drums...

This Butterfly Park is at Bannerghatta National Park, inaugurated on Nov,2006, spread across 7.5 acres, open from 10am-5pm (tuesday holday)

Has a polycarbonate roof and is a 10,000 sq ft. circular enclosure, inside which the living environment has been carefully designed to support over 20 species of butterflies, with humid climate, plants, shrubs and flowers.

Also has a museum that exhibits different species of butterflies and their life history and a media room showing video on butterflies

Its so pleasing to see a butterfly sitting in an flower, just inches from ur eyes. And i dont have to tell how beautiful those wings are....

It just flies around you...

Witnessed one of beautiful movie... Hero, Heroine and the Dark Villian!!! (you can check the series of pics in the album to understand it)

The butterfly, with its legs, tastes the leaves in which its going to lay her eggs, caz its going to be those leaves which the larva/caterpillar feed-on after its birth..

Beautiful flowers in the Butterfly Park!!!

Here is the complete album...

will end this post with thanks to my friend priya, with whom i went there..
